DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

The Department of Psychology, affiliated to Bharathiar University, is committed to providing quality education and training in the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. The department aims to equip students with a strong foundation in psychological theories, research methods, and practical applications relevant to individual, social, and organizational contexts.

The curriculum prescribed by Bharathiar University is carefully integrated with classroom teaching, experiential learning, and skill-based activities to foster critical thinking, ethical awareness, and professional competence. Students are introduced to core areas of psychology such as cognitive, developmental, social, abnormal, counselling, and organizational psychology, along with hands-on exposure to psychological assessment, research, and fieldwork.

The department emphasizes holistic development through seminars, workshops, case studies, internships, and community outreach programmes, enabling students to apply psychological principles to real-life situations. Ethical practices and effective communication skills are strongly emphasized in accordance with professional standards.

The Department of Psychology prepares students for diverse career paths in counselling, mental health services, human resources, education, research, and social services, while also providing a strong academic base for higher studies and competitive examinations.

The B.Sc. Psychology program describes accomplishments that graduates are expected to attain within five to seven years after graduation.

  • To impart comprehensive knowledge of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology, enabling graduates to develop a strong foundation in the discipline.
  • To apply active learning principles in the field of Psychology and promote the transfer of these learning principles to allied fields such as clinical practice, education, research, human resources, organisational settings, and community services.
  • To offer comprehensive training in inquiry, analytical, and critical-thinking skills by integrating research methods and scholarly activities into students’ academic learning and long-term career development.
  • To develop effective communication skills, both written and oral, using professional conventions and adhering to ethical standards prescribed by national and international professional psychological bodies.
  • To support students in cultivating the ability to integrate scientific principles and psychological knowledge with professional practice, enabling them to address effectively the needs of individuals, families, groups, organisations, and society at large.

MoU

Date: 09.04.2022 (Saturday), The Department of Psychology, Sri Krishna Adithya College of Arts and Science signed a MoU with Natchiyar Mind Care Hospital (NIMCAPS), Coimbatore. The Students and Staff members of SKACAS will be benefited through this MoU

  • Students of SKACAS will get professional certificate on Psycho Therapy
  • Clinical Internship in Natchiyar Mind Care Hospital for Psychology Students
  • Case file access in Hospital Record Room (for Academic and Research Purpose)
  • Students and Faculty Members of SKACAS can meet the experts (Psychologist/ Psychiatrist) to get the counseling and guidance.

Professional Activities

23.05.2022, Department of Psychology, Sri Krishna Adithya College of Arts and Science Coimbatore. Students of I, II, III years and faculty members Mr. Mohammed Aadil, Mr. Abilash Kasi, Ms. Sindhuja Manisha Kamini and Ms. Sanjana Anju of Department of Psychology have visited Natchiyar Mind Care Hospital, Coimbatore as a one-day industrial visit students were observed the inpatients and attend the orientation. Dr. Venkateshwar MD of Natchiyar Mind Care Hospital have welcomed the faculty members of Psychology.
